Engine 4 (1997 KME 50’ telesquirt) and Ladder 4 (1990 Gruman 104' platform) operate from quarters located in the Skyland Fire Department located at 9 Miller Road .  This South Asheville location was necessitated with the continued expansion of the city limits.

Engine 4 has a long history.  Originally located at 300 Merrimon Avenue, E-4 operated from what is now the headquarters of the Asheville-Buncombe County Arson Task Force.  E-4 was moved to Station Seven in 1973 when engineers determined that the facility on Merrimon was in need of a new roof and city finances would not allow the repairs.  They operated out of 7 until they were placed out of service in late 1978.  With the first Skyland annexation they were re-activated at Station 5 to cover the additional area added by the expansion of the city limits.   The second phase of annexations necessitated the move to Station 21 (Skyland) and their new facility included specific space added to accommodate Engine 4 and the addition (6/30/2004) of Ladder 4.
