The Fire Safety House was donated to the Asheville Fire-Rescue Department from the Asheville Fire Fighters Association, Local 865.  It is a 28 foot trailer designed to teach children fire safety rules within a home and allows them to practice a fire drill in a safe environment.  The trailer inside contains a living room with fire place, a kitchen with both a sink and stove/oven, and a bedroom upstairs.  The trailer is designed to teach children fire safety for each room of a house and what to look out for.  There is even simulated smoke teaching children the importance of crawling low under smoke and how to make a quick escape outside to a designated meeting place.  The Fire Safety trailer is best suited for children kindergarten through 3rd grade. For the older children and even adults, the Asheville Fire-Rescue Department recently purchased a larger trailer through a FEMA grant that not only teaches the same fire safety rules of the smaller trailer, but also incorporates severe weather awareness training and a sprinkler demonstration. If your organization is interested in this training, please contact the Fire Marshal's office at 259-5640 to schedule.
